There are many great hikes in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and we have selected two hikes you can experience while you are in Balestrand.
Raudmelen (972 m.a.s.l.)
Raudmelen is one of the most popular mountain hikes in Balestrand, and offers one of the most stunning views over the Sognefjord. From the top, 972 meters above sea level, you get an impressive panorama of the fjord, Esefjorden and the majestic mountains that surround the village.
The hike is around 10 kilometers round trip and takes about 5–6 hours. The trail is well marked and goes through varied terrain with both forest, open mountain areas and several great viewpoints along the way. Feel free to take a break at Orrabenken or Buråsi, where you can enjoy the view before continuing towards the summit.
Raudmelen is a medium to demanding hike and is best suited for those who are used to hiking in the mountains. The hike can be done from June to October, depending on snow conditions.
This is a trip that provides a true mountain experience and a view you will never forget.

Keipen (1417 m.a.s.l.)
Keipen is one of the most spectacular mountain hikes in Balestrand and is often referred to as "Sognefjorden's answer to Preikestolen". From the top, 1,417 meters above sea level, a magnificent view awaits you straight down towards Sognefjorden and the mighty mountain landscape around. This is a nature experience that truly pays off all the effort uphill.
The route is around 14 kilometres long with an elevation gain of almost 1,500 metres, and the trip usually takes between 7 and 9 hours. Along the way you will pass through beautiful scenery and, among other things, Gulleplet, a great viewpoint where many take a well-deserved break before the final climb to the summit.
Keipen is a demanding mountain hike that is best suited to those with good physical fitness and mountain experience. In return, you will get one of the most impressive views along the entire Sognefjord, an experience you will not soon forget.
