Everything you as a travel operator need to know about Kviknes Hotel

Quality, tradition and atmosphere

Kviknes Hotel is beautifully located by the Sognefjord in Balestrand. The traditions of hospitality here date back to 1752. The Kvikne family, who today own the hotel, took over in 1877. The hotel was built in the Swiss style, and has retained its distinctive character even after several renovations and expansions. Kviknes is a modern hotel with soul and atmosphere, and with its 200 rooms it is one of the most traditional hotels in Norway. The hotel has collected a number of works of art and treasures that characterize the hotel and give it its special style. Kviknes is now a modern hotel with old-fashioned charm and atmosphere.

The list of prominent guests at Kviknes Hotel is very long. Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany was a frequent guest in Balestrand. In addition, royalty, emperors, presidents, prime ministers, movie stars and artists from many countries can be found on the guest list.

At Kviknes Hotel, we place great emphasis on culinary experiences. Local ingredients are used as far as possible, and the Sognefjord is an outstanding pantry. Our wine list is the largest and most varied in Sogn.

Our rooms

The modern building from the late 1960s has 8 floors and 165 rooms. There is an elevator to the rooms. The rooms are in 1960s/70s style. The historic building from the late 1800s is kept in a more traditional style. There is no elevator in the historic building.

For 2024, we have made our room categories more detailed to describe our rooms even better:

Culinary experiences

In the Dining Room we serve breakfast and dinner. Our breakfast is a rich breakfast buffet with cold and hot dishes.

For dinner, we serve a standard dinner, which is either our delicious buffet with hot and cold dishes or a 3-course menu (depending on how many guests we have in the house) or a 4-course menu.

We serve lunch in the dining room on request. In the reception we have Balholm Bar & Bistro where we offer a bar menu.

Breathing space

Take a little respite by strolling through the lounges and enjoying everything the art-loving and international hotel family has collected over generations. Enjoy nature, the mountains and the Sognefjord from a comfortable chair in the hotel garden. Or you can do as so many others who come to Balestrand, walk right into the national romantic scene that has inspired artists for over a hundred years.
